Hamburg, 19 May 2014 – Football merchandise produced by Adidas, Nike and Puma ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil has been found to contain hazardous chemicals according to a new investigation by Greenpeace Germany. 33 items including boots, goalkeeper gloves and the official ‘Brazuca’ ball were tested for a range of substances. Adidas’ iconic ‘Predator’ football boots were found to contain very high levels of toxic PFC at 14 times the company’s own restriction limits [1].

Washington State Reports Finds No Elevated Cancer Risk in Soccer Players on Artificial Turf Fields

To All ASBA Members,

We have just learned from the Synthetic Turf Council that yesterday the Washington State Department of Health (WA DOH) published a report concluding that there is no elevated risk of cancer among soccer players who play on artificial turf fields. As many of you know, the WA DOH two-year study was prompted by University of Washington Coach Amy Griffin's list of soccer players in the state with cancer.

The report found: "We did not find the number of cancers among soccer players, select and premier players, or goalkeepers reported to the project team to be higher than expected based on Washington cancer rates for people of the same ages. Based on what we know today, the Washington State Department of Health recommends that people who enjoy soccer continue to play regardless of the type of field surface."

CBS Houston – NRG stadium this season will have a brand new playing surface. This Saturday when the Houston Texans take on the New Orleans Saints, it will be the first time people will be able to get a glimpse of the new field turf.

Tuesday afternoon the new UBU Sports Speed Series S5-M synthetic turf was unveiled, they are now the 13th team in the NFL to use this surface.

For years the Texans playing surface has been considered one of the worst in the NFL, with team after team complaining about the field.

In 2010 the Texans playing field was considered to have played a part in New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker tearing his ACL. Former Texans safety D.J. Swearinger also once shared that linebacker Jadeveon Clowney tore his meniscus because of the field.

Last year the Texans moved away from the grass tray system after the Kansas City Chiefs complained about the field, they replaced it with a backup artificial turf for the rest of the season.
